Method — how to read this ledger
The two scenarios
Scenario A is the case where growth generated by advances in artificial intelligence is strong enough to dissolve the high-rate problem. If productivity and earnings outpace the burden of high rates, those rates stop being a weight on the whole economy.
Scenario B is the case where that thesis breaks. If AI-driven growth falls short of expectations, or runs into physical and financial constraints, high rates persist and their burden remains.
This ledger does not declare which scenario is right. It collects dated public material and records which scenario each item lends weight to.
Judgement tags
- Supports — evidence on the Scenario A side; material that backs the thesis.
- Refutes — evidence on the Scenario B side; material that cuts against the thesis.
- Neutral — context with no directional call; excluded from the gauge sums.
Weights
- 3 — guidance decisions, official filings and releases that change a plan or a relied-upon number.
- 2 — notable data: a figure or result that is material, but is not itself a decision or filing.
- 1 — context: background material that helps frame the picture.
How the gauge is computed
The gauge is a running tally of the whole ledger. Let A be the sum of weights over all supporting entries and B the sum over all refuting entries; the gauge shows the normalized ratio A : B over A + B. Neutral entries enter neither sum. As evidence accumulates the ratio moves gradually, and no single entry determines it.
Daily Watch, Quarterly Act
The operating principle of this ledger is “watch daily, judge quarterly.” Evidence is recorded as it arrives, but conclusions are not revised in reaction to a single day's figures. The accumulated record is reviewed at quarterly intervals.
An evidence record, not advice
Every entry organises public material together with its source. Figures are carried over exactly as the source states them; where a source link exists it is provided, and otherwise the source is named. This record is an organisation of facts, not a document that directs any action.
The mechanisms behind the scenarios and the criteria that judge them are set out in The Scenarios in Detail; what qualifies for the ledger, and what is excluded, is in How Evidence Is Chosen.
